View Full Version : Flying V acoustic mandola
Sometimes, you wake up in the night, and an idea for an instrument just pops into your head with the intensity of a hungry rotweiler heading for a bowl of kitten tartar.
This one stuck in my head like a bad pop tune on permanant repeat, so I built it. It was supposed to be a mandolin, but sorta slid into something bigger. Funny how that happens when you slack off on drawing a plan.

Ellie, I bet you had all kinds of design problems with this animal. IT LOOKS GREAT! ......Quite a while ago while flipping through a FRETS mag, I came up with the idea to make a quartertone fingerboard (Imagine twice the # of frets on your guitar) for one of my guitars. The idea stayed in my head for years untill I finaly had it built. After a lot of work, and a second refret,(too big frets 1st time) the thing was ready to play.I spent 15 minits tryin it, and permanently hung it up on the wall. A bunch of pro guitar players in my hometown of Winnipeg played it,(there were about 10 of them) No one could do anything with it except Ron Thommason (Formerly of Acoustically Inclined). Since I don't like having wall ornaments,I recently took the fingerboard off and am waiting for a regular one to buy and put on. ....Sorry for the rambling... Please to post more pics?....Kerry

Nice job Ellie. I took a look at the rest of the pics over at the mimf.
There is an instrument you made I have seen referenced a time or two I am curious about. What style of mando is the Jessica Rabbit? You ought to post pics of it in the "Post a Picture of Your Mando" section.
