I'm perfectly happy with Steve van Zandt. I'm November 22nd. I already have a presidential assassination/death on mine, so I don't need much; EVERYONE knows my bday, and I only have vague references of it because I was just three years old. I have other famous people, non-musicians: Rodney Dangerfield, Jamie Lee Curtis, Billie Jean King, and Scarlet Johanssen.

Bruce Hornsby: tangentially mando-related.
R.L. Burnside: not a mando player, but one cool dude.
Billy the Kid: inspired a great mando-oriented song by Ry Cooder.
Miley Cyrus: to my eternal shame and embarrassment.
Also the birthday of composers Krzysztof Penderecki, Manuel de Falla, and Jerry Bock.
Both Roy Acuff and Thomas Tallis died on my birthday.

1964, The Supremes recorded 'Baby Love', the song went on to be the group's first UK No.1 and second US chart topper.

["Set list for the tour" - don't see that any more!]
1966, Lovin Spoonful started a three week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with 'Summer In The City', it made No.8 in the UK. [Their only #1 hit, though they had a few Top Tens.]

1967, Fleetwood Mac made their live debut when they appeared at the National Jazz and Blues Festival in Windsor. Also on the bill Jeff Beck, Cream, Small Faces, The Move, The Pink Floyd, Donovan and Chicken Shack. [And playing in Chicken Shack" Christine Perfect, later to marry John McVie.]
1971, Saxophonist King Curtis Ousley was stabbed to death by a vagrant on the front steps of his New York home. Ousley had worked with John Lennon and also played on The Coasters 'Yakety Yak'.
1971, John Lennon flew from Heathrow Airport to New York, he never set foot on British soil again.
1971, Pink Floyd played their first ever-Australian date when they appeared at the Festival Hall in Melbourne.
1977, Bachman Turner Overdrive split up. They had the 1974 US No.1 and UK No.2 hit 'You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet.'
1980, four masked robbers broke in to Todd Rundgren's New York house and proceeded to steal Hi-Fi equipment and paintings after tying the musician up. It was reported that one of the intruders had been humming his hit 'I Saw The Light'. [Shocked to hear this. Never knew about this before. Really creepy.]
1982, American soul singer Joe Tex died at his home in Navasota, Texas, following a heart attack, just five days after his 49th birthday. Had nine US Top 40 hits including the 1972 US No.2 single 'I Gotcha'.
1982, major American record companies including CBS Atlantic and Warner Brothers all made staff cut-backs as the industry plunged into 'the worst shape in its history'.
1992, Neil Diamond played the first of six sold-out nights at Madison Square Garden in New York. Diamond would bring in over $40 million from touring this year, the second highest in the music industry.
1994, members from Oasis and The Verve were arrested after smashing up a hotel bar and breaking into a church to steal communion wine. Both bands had been appearing at Hulsfred Festival in Sweden. [Oh boys, really!]
1994, Woodstock '94 was held in Saugerties, New York, attended by over 350,000 fans, the festival featured Green Day, Nine Inch Nails, Aerosmith and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Tickets cost $135.00, (£89.00).
1999, Mick Jagger's marriage to model Jerry Hall was been declared null and void at the High Court in London.

Michael Jackson. He would not have been the person he was if he had not been born on my birthday!

And it gets stranger for AUG 29... (now I've passed the rockstar age I'll post the results)

1959, The Quarry Men (John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ken Brown) performed at the Casbah Coffee Club, Hayman's Green, West Derby, Liverpool. This is the opening night of a new teen club in a large Victorian house that is owned by Mrs. Mona Best and the first of seven straight Saturdays that The Quarry Men play here. The band shared one microphone connected to the house P.A.
(mmm...'59 -also best ever GibsonLP?) love the "bluegrass" mic technique.

1966, The Beatles played their last concert before a paying audience, at Candlestick Park in San Francisco, California to a sold-out crown of 25,000. John and Paul, knowing what the fans do not (that this will be the last concert ever) bring cameras on stage and take pictures between songs. During this tour, The Beatles have not played a single song from their latest album, ‘Revolver’. They finished the show with a version of Little Richards 'Long Tall Sally'.
wow... coincidental for sure.. especially when the MJ thing is factored.

1976, The Sex Pistols supported by The Clash and The Buzzcocks appeared at The Screen On The Green, London, England.
1977, three people were arrested in Memphis after trying to steal Elvis' body. As a result, his remains would be later moved to Graceland.
And i thought 77 was 'sposed to be the year punk broke...

1981, Electric Light Orchestra scored their second UK No.1 album with 'Time'.
The day I was born... should i be worried?

1991, at 7pm, DJ Kurt St. Thomas from radio station WFNX in Boston gave Nirvana’s album ‘Nevermind’ its world premiere by playing the album from start to finish.
Groundbreaking...

1953, Born on this day, Rick Downey, Blue Oyster Cult
more cowbell...

1958, Born on this day, Michael Jackson, singer, songwriter, The Jackson Five . Jackson died on 25th June 2009 at the age of 50, after suffering heart failure at his home in Beverly Hills. Prior to his death, Jackson had been scheduled to perform 50 sold-out concerts to over one million people, at London's O2 arena, from July 13, 2009 to March 6, 2010.
Sorry that must have got lost in the news about Les Paul... RIP LP&MJ...
