I'm moving to Bozeman in the near future and am hoping that there will be a good music store where I can stare at beautiful mandolins that I can't afford on a graduate student stipend and content myself with buying picks and other little things. Does anyone know of good stores in the Bozeman area?

I don't mean to be the geography police but Greg Boyd is up in Missoula and it's quite a drive from Bozeman. However, when the itch gets really bad it's just time in the saddle. Pack a lunch, though. Sorry, but I'm not familiar enough with Bozeman to offer shop advice. Maybe someone else can. Good luck.

Greg Boyd is in Missoula, 200 miles from Bozeman.
Sound to Earth (Weber Mandolins) is in Logan. A bit closer but still not in Bozeman. Logan is just a short drive, maybe 25 miles west.
I'll bet someone there knows about the music shops in Bozeman.

Music Villa on main street in Bozeman. They have a room in the back with a great selection of Webers and Gibsons, along with a lot of vintage stuff. Guarenteed to make you smile.

missoula and bozeman are only 200 miles apart (geographically). in montana terms, that's a short commute. plus, the way we all drive here, it's only a two hour drive...

Quite true John. When I lived in Great Falls, I had to reframe my perspective on what was considered a short drive http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Greg does have a real nice new showroom. He's good to deal with also. Well worth the trip.

Yep, pay him a visit. You'll be wanting to check out Missoula anyway (go Griz!)

A couple of posters here are building very fine Mandolins in Montana -Mike Blohm and Andrew Mowry. I'd get in touch with these fellows and take a trip to visit them.

I'm actually living an hour from Missoula currently, but I've never been able to make it up to Greg Boyd's while he's open. I guess I'll have to stop through some other time.

I'll second Music Villa. Nice store.
