I want to retune a 17 inch scale length Trinity College TM 275 mandola (CGDA) to sound like or similar to and have the same tuning as an octave mandolin (GDAE) so I can play it without relearning chords and finger positions.
I know the Celtic Star brand mandola is tuned this way with unison 0.061 G strings and 0.017 E strings. But I can't remember the gauges of the wound D and A strings. Can any tell me what gauge the D and A strings should be?
The heaviest gauge set available through internet suppliers are J76 which are 0.052 thru 0.015. Where might I purchase odd size loop end set of mandola strings?
