Today, July 9th is the 86th Birthday of the most famous Gibson F5 on the planet. Not only is it the most famous it is also the most expensive signed Loar to date. And Happy Birthday to the many cheaper siblings from that same tree on that date. May they all have many more. :mandosmiley:

Not only the most famous and most valuable Loar, but also likely the most beat-up (naturally and unnaturally) that is still in a playable condition.
Happy Birthday #73987........

And also Happy Birthday to f5loar and to Jesse McR., although neither is yet 86!
And may they have many more.

Also, happy birthday to Mr. F5loar--who, I think, owns a July 9! Although old Tom is not quite 86 yet...

Happy Birthday to probably the most famous individual instrument known. I guess many want it in a museum. I hope.....but I'm doubtful, that old 73987 will be played again. I'm one of those geeks who thinks instruments are meant to be played.
Do you think these Loars will achieve the status of the Strad Violins someday? Some are worth millions...........but I think most are being played.

I hope that F5Loar takes his birthday mandolin out of the case today and gives it a bit of attention. And a happy birthday to both, as well as all the other mandolins out there.
Here is a pic of ole F5Loar at the doorway to the Blue Grass Music; Uncle Pen's cabin.
