The black goo that came with my old AKG C411 never comes off the instrument cleanly. Anybody have any recommendations for something that will stick when it's supposed to stick, and come off when it's supposed to come off?

Have you tried kneaded rubber like 'blue tack', at office supply stores ? it seems OK.

I found the stuff that Schertler supplies to be fine , it is a bit more clay like.

the way it is used is to make a suction cup like ring around the contact point, is a bit different, though.

Thanks, mandroid, I'll get to an office supply store and try that out.

And would you please report back Don, I use the AKG too.

Do you have a problem with that black sticky stuff too, Mike?

I've had pretty good luck with the goo, I have only added more stickum to the p-u once in the last 10 years or so, but there is always a little bit left on the top of the instrument.. I actually haven't used it much lately since I'm only using the F with a mic on BG situations. I have an A Jr with a K&K inside that I use for plug-in gigs that are usually singer-songwriter type things.

Yeah BluTack works pretty good. Comes off pretty easy and clean I have used it before.

And the best way to apply it is roll it until it is a long roll and then form it in a circle so it will act like a suction cup like mandroid said.

If you just have a ball of it and flatten it it will stick but not as good.

same response as Mandroid. The Schertler goo picks off very cleanly. My goo is mint green.
