I went to the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville last night and saw Elvis Costello's newest tour with an unbelievable all star string band...Mike Compton (mandolin), Jerry Douglas (dobro), Stuart Duncan (fiddle and banjo), Jim Lauderdale (guitar and vocals) and Dennis Crouch (stand up bass).
They were unbelievable!!! If you get a chance you gotta go see them. Mike did an outstanding job on mandolin and he seemed to be having a great time. Jerry Douglas and Stuart Duncan flat wore it out! Seven outstanding musicians (an accordian player that was exceptional but I didn't catch his name).
The tunes ranged from a folk sound to cajun, celtic...it's really hard to tag the style into one single genre. They played a lot of songs from their new album Secret, Profane and Sugarcane.
After playing for a little over two hours they came out for the encore and played at least eight more songs.
Anyway...an amazing concert and highly recommended.
