Hi,
I am new to the forum and new to the mandolin. I found that I have a lot of free time with my new job so I bought a mandolin. I used to play the cello when I was younger but haven't played any instrument in about ten years. It feels so good just to be playing scales and plucking out tunes.
I am infatuated with my mandolin. It hurts though.
I am in South Korea for the next year and I was wondering if there was anyone else playing the mandolin in this country. If so please contact me at andrealynnmitchell@gmail.com if you want to chat or get together sometime.
thanks,
andrea

Hi Andrea, welcome to the Cafe! ~o)
I'm not in South Korea, but I can relate to your situation. I'm just about halfway through an eight-month contract in Antarctica. There are a few musicians down here, but they love Jimmy Buffet, which frightened me away immediately. I would rather poke my eyes out than play Cheeseburger in Margaritaville.
There are opportunities to advance playing alone, but it is better to find someone to play with. The Cafe is a wonderful way to connect with other players, and there are a lot of great ways to learn here. Don't be shy to post questions-- there is so much experience here, and there are no stupid questions.
Happy Pickin',
Lee

HI,
Thanks for the reply. Yeah, Antartica is pretty out there. Thanks for the encouragement to write questions cause I am starting to have some. I have a CD that I can play along with. And there is an American in my town who plays the clarinet (but she is really really good so I would be nervouse to ask her to play with me while I pick out simple tunes).

Well, shucks.......So Korea and Antarctica???? I got a great idea. Lets ship them both some company....like some b*njo pickers. It would be a win-win situation, as it would be good for our society, as we would eridicate some rascals, and they have a need for a dozen or three.:))
Hmmmmmm..... ;)
