I'm looking for some songs that I can do as a duet, guitar and mandolin. I'd like it to be some good harmony singing parts that has the high lonesome feel to it. One song that we have done together and sounds pretty good is "By the Mark". I'd like to learn 3 or 4 of them by the end of next month for the next jam. If you have a youtube link of the song that would help very much..~o).thanks.

Go on YouTube, search on "Louvin Brothers." Lots of audio clips, some decent videos. All feature Charlie's guitar and Ira's mandolin.

I do love the skaggs and rice album...............I am gonna give the entire CD another listen. I was hoping to find a gem I had never heard before...I will also try and find some Louvin Bros....I've heard of them but I don't think I have "heard" them.

I know that Dailey and Vincent sing a lot of duets, who are some others that do and I'll just start searching them out on youtube.....thanks for the suggestions so far.

I guess a lot of songs can be done as duets -what is the definition?

One our group does is Midnight Tears

For mando/guitar duets check out Growling Old Men.

Me and my guitar playing buddy do a good version of "Last Train From Poor Valley". Some others we do as a mando/guitar duo

Diamond Joe
Nellie Kane
High On a Mountain
Banks of the Ohio
Trouble In Mind
Hard Times
Pick Me Up On Your Way Down

...oh, and any number of fiddle tunes. Guitar/mando fiddle tune duets can work out quite nicely.

Probably doesn't fall into the category of stuff you haven't heard, but Tone Poems (Grisman/Rice) always pops into my head when guitar/mando duets pop up...some really good stuff on there...short on the vocals end, though...

Good luck...

(I type the above as I'm thinking, "There's no way I could pretend to play like either of those guys!")
