I've just been to the local pub near our office for a lunchtime pint with colleagues, and was surprised to see that one of their guest ales had a prominent picture of an oval-hole Gibson A on the pump clip. #Of course, I had to try it and am pleased to report that it's a very pleasant refreshing summer beer.

You can see the pump clip on the Bazens' Brewery web site here (http://www.bazensbrewery.co.uk/beer_list.html) (click on the link for "FlatbaC 4.2%"). #I can only assume that the brewer is a mandolin fan -- can't think of any other link to this beer. #None of their other beers are music-themed.

Here's the link (http://www.bazensbrewery.co.uk/beers/flatbac.html) directly into the page referred to. They are using some clever scripting to try to avoid people linking to directly to it.

Hi folks,

I actually know the guy who makes this beer - his name is Richard Bazen and he plays the mandolin.

Haven't seen him around for a while (think he's busy making beer), but I used to play in a session that he came along to, and I can confirm that his beer is superb......

But, isn't that a carved back mandolin? A flat-back would be and Army/Navy or a Cadet or a flatiron 1N, wouldn't it?

I've had a go on that mandolin - it is a gibson A copy (as you can tell), and is made by Dave Gregory who's based in York - I liked it, definitely cuts through if you hit it right...... http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif
