Folks:

I'm new to the list. If this topic has been hashed over before, my apologies.

I've commissioned an F mando from a builder in upstate New York. Evidently his supply dealer is saying that manufacturers aren't shipping dual truss rods - reason unknown - and there's an indefinite wait. Has anyone else had problems, or else knows of them?

Any advice on the pros and cons of various truss rods, or experience with same, would be appreciated.

Thanks much, and kind regards ...

Steve Smith a cumberland acoustics makes the dual trussrods. Might try contacting him. cumberlandacoustics.com

Answer is, who needs the extra weight and mechanical complication.

I've installed single action rods (which I make myself) in my mandolin necks for the last five years. Fact is, I've never had a neck warp to where I've actually had to adjust one of these rods. I use a "three piece neck" which literally becomes a "four piece neck" when the fretboard is glued in place. The rod was originally installed for "insurance," but I'm beginning to believe that a bit of carbon fibre could easily take the rod's place and give me a lighter instrument.

Carbon fibre has worked for me, so far. But, for adjustable truss rods the dual truss rods are not much heavier, are easier to install, and are more effective.
