To go with the other two threads...How 'bout instruments you had the chance to buy, but didn't, for whatever reason...
My two entries: in 1969, I was offered a pick of two Loars, one w/Virzi, one w/o Virzi, for $1200 (yeah, that's twelve hundred):crying: At the time, I had the Duffey F-7 which sounded better than anything, so, even though I had the money at the time, I declined.
In 1997 I received a modest inheritance when my mother died. Gruhn had the Ralph Rinzler Fern (1926) for $26K. Boy, did I want that!!! But other needs prevailed. Now of course, I wish I'd done it...:(
