hey all- i was at the symposium last week and had a chance to see some of the world's best mandolins up close, sometimes in my hands. i was particularly curious about the action on chris and mike's mandos, wondering how much lower they had theirs. i played both of theirs, and both played as well as you'd expect, but of course i did not measure them. anyways, i started wondering what the specs on their action is, and also about the measurements on the mandos of some of the other best players. i'm particularly curious about the folks mentioned above as well as john reischman and adam steffey, but most anyones specs will be interesting. to start things off, grismans loar, the one with the tape on the headstock, measures in at just under 5/64 at the twefth. joe
