I have no clue working songs out from listening to them. Here's one I'd like to learn, but I don't have a clue. I know some of you live and die by learning songs by ear (Bill Fitzpatrick?), but a lot of us need more help. How would you approach learning this song and applying it to mandolin?

Well, it's in E ...
The lyrics are available at a number of sites, for instance:
http://www.sweetslyrics.com/602551.The%20Weepies%20-%20Antarctica.html
http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/weepies/antarctica.html
Pop a few pertinent words into your search engine - I used "the weepies"+"antarctica" +"Carnelian stars" - and you'll get a bunch of these sites. Adding "chords" didn't help - too soon. As time goes on and more people post, sites with chords will show up. Chordie.com isn't my favorite, but it does transpose most songs automatically, which is very cool. Keep checking.
Meanwhile ...
The chorus is C#m A E B. The verse sounds like F#m E B. That should get you started.

Sorry Bill. I had just watched that Tarantino movie "Fitz Bill", hence my confusion. :whistling:

I'll be home to Alberta next week. Right now the ISP that provides service to the rig has blocked Youtube (to save bandwidth, they say). I'd be glad to help once I get home. Otherwise I'd be giving it a try, because I have nothing to do out here except play the mando and watch the dust blow by in these 50 degree-C afternoons. For the un-penguinose and non-metric among us, that's 122 F.

Yikes. I'm not sure if I'd trade my -20F and calm. Sounds crazy, but this is about the nicest weather we get around here this time of year. Not to mention the pitch dark all the time...
Mando content: Ant Arctica, my only livin' relative....
