Hey Everyone,
My name is Jerad Walker. I'm the Music Content Assistant at WAMU's Bluegrass Country in Washington, DC.
Deering Banjo Company of Spring Valley, CA has donated a beautiful Golden Classic 5-string banjo to the station for the purpose of an auction. The instrument has been signed by 26 of the best banjo players in bluegrass. Some of the signatures were donated to us at the 2008 IBMAs, while the rest were added by the artists after playing live in our studios.
Here's a full list of the signees:
1. Marc Pruett – Balsam Range
2. Eric Gibson – Gibson Brothers
3. Cathy Fink
4. Alan Munde – Alan Munde Gazette; Jimmy Martin & Sunny Mt Boys
5. Marcy Marxer
6. Jens Koch - G2 Band (Sweden)

The banjo is in mint condition and has never been played (well, expect for those 26 listed above). The list price is $8,399.00, but the bidding starts at $6,400 on this amazing collector's item. And remember, the proceeds go towards a good cause-- keeping bluegrass music on the airwaves!
The auction ends May 28th. If you are interested in bidding on this item, please go here. http://bluegrasscountry.org/news/deering-golden-classic-banjo-auction/

WAMU is an NPR affiliate, one of the largest member-supported public radio stations in the United States, and has a long and storied history in the bluegrass community. WAMU broadcasts bluegrass music on it's standard FM band, but also produces a 24 hour HD radio station, Bluegrass Country, dedicated solely to that high lonesome sound. We are also available online at http://www.BluegrassCountry.org.
