I am looking at the tab for “ The Old Home Place”, the version from Mandozine. #It contains G, B7 & D7.

I can’t seem to play the B7 successfully. #A friend recommended changing the key or simply playing something close to the B7.

Is the correct answer?
1. Just learn the difficult B7. #If so, what fingering do you use?
2. A different key?
3. Play something else close to B7.

Thanks,

Chris

Those are the right chords. Some tech help for us all--me included--in posting chords. Below the posting area there's a link called iB Code that gives some tips on various formatting. One essential one for posting chords is to set a monospaced font such as courier so that chords line up evenly. That's done by assigned a font tag with Courier as the font of choice. Seems to not like the space the 10 fret leaves out so I just delete it, or you could put it on the other side. Suppose I could figure that out by putzing around with it for awhile but I'm lazy!

..thanks Scott..I will make a note of that....I wondered what caused the things to get out of line.

Here are a few ideas to consider:

a) Just because it says B7 doesn't mean it is necessary to add in the 7th to the chord; a simple B chord will work just as well.

b) 3-note chords can work just as effectively as 4-note chords.

c) You could also use the 6th in your chord, and play a B6 instead. #The 6th is just a color tone which changes the tint of the chord. #Likewise, you could use a C6 instead of the plain C as well, giving everything a slightly swingier spin. #
<span style='font-size:8pt;line-height:100%'>(note: In a minor key, substituting the V6 for V7 is not an automatically works option)</span>

<span style='font-family:courier'>## #B7 to C or C # or #B7 to C6

&#124;===1=====2====2===&#124;====1====2===
&#124;===4=====5====5===&#124;====4====5===

amidst all this higher learning I will post.

I always just use the low "C" chord slid back to make a B with out the "e" string the same note just minus a few. works real good in this song. and the next chord is a C so you just slide the same chord-form up one fret and you are there!
Niles is the man.

Shoot, I normally sing this when I'm playing the HD28V, and I have enough trouble holding everything together and catching that B7 on the fly.
I'll try all the suggestions on the mando tonight, good info, and what a great song!

I have learned the solo from Mandozine. Does any one know of other tabed solos for this song?

I tabbed out the break I do (although I couldn't get the triplets tabbed quite right) in TablEdit form here:

[No, I don't play it that fast, I saved it at 85% (102) but it still plays at 100% (smokin')]

Thanks Jimini. I'll check it out.

We do this one in Bb, so the guitar player gets to play B7 with the capo on fret 3, but I play a D7 on mandolin.

The break I worked out for this song is at the very limit of my capabilities -- so it's always a challenge when we decide to throw this song in. At least we usually do it later in the night when most people have left http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

practice practice gotta practice... shoot now why am I here typing again? http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
