I must say that I just happened to tune in right when they were playing....what the heck? #It completely sucked and not just because they didn't have a mando player but because it really sounded bad! #They had two ban()o players and the one on the left was strumming it like a guitar. #And now I understand why most of America and others see bluegrass the way they do! #If that is our " culture" then I guess I am done because that style just doesn't appeal to me. #Let me say it again.....sounded bad to my ears. Maybe it was a re-run and if it was, God help all who heard it the first time!
On the other hand, I like their look, their energy and their music. #There is room for it all. #Hairsytle, height, not modern? #Open yourself up. #They are good enough to be playing the Grand Ole Opry on a regular basis, so that says something(although I'm not sure what).
I would like to see a mando in the group though. #I think it would work well with what they are doing. #For those open to a new sound, here is their link,

When was the last time YOU were on Conan?http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif
Actually, Greetings from WaWa and their newest one are quite good. There's a Dylan co-write song on it called "Wagonwheel" that's a great song. Only one of two Dylan co-written songs and Ketch Secor, the fiddler has this credit.
Saw them open for Del and boys in Chicago and it was a great show. Good fiddle player. Ain't bluegrass, but they don't claim to be. REPEAT: they don't claim to be bluegrass. Why slam them so hard, son?

Actually David, I don't even want to get in to where I have "been" thanks because I don't feel like letting pride take over! Anyways, maybe I was a little harsh in my "critique" of them and just to be sure I went to there website and listened today. I still don't like it at all but it was sure better than their performance last night on Conan. I just have very strong opinions, as if you guys didn't know that already!

It is a rerun from june ... I've seen it before.
They have only one banjo, the other is a 6str banjitar.
I like them.

To each his own, of course, but I really enjoy them - especially live. I've seen them three times now (most recently w/ Gillian Welch) and was impressed each time. I have not, however, seen their Conan appearance. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

It's interesting you bring them up mandojeremy...I sort of got the same impression you got, but not from the Conan show. If you've seen Bluegrass Journey, there's a clip of them playing at the hotel during IBMA. It left me scratching my head: are they trying to be funny? They're singing, almost babbling: norda norda dooda norda!!!
You don't know if you're supposed to take them seriously or if they're mocking bluegrass.
I just don't consider babbling non-sensically interesting at all. Maybe the Bluegrass Journey clip didn't truly represent what they are all about. I'm willing to give them a chance and check them out some more, but their website seems to be down.
