Could someone tell me a little more about Chris Thile's master class at the symposium? Who were the kids in his class? I really look forward to hearing a recording of the Friday Night concert!

The symposium had a level 5 class that you had to audition for. A handful of the people who made it were kids, and Chris took them under his wing and they all wrote a song together and performed it at the Friday night concert. My roommate was one of the lucky kids (at 18, she was the oldest member of the group; the rest were about 12)... they sounded phenomenal!

I hope they really stick to their mandos and give us great music in the future.

That's really cool to know that the future of the instrument is in the right hands!

They sure were great. I guess just a bunch of yougster from different places that are very talented. You can see their pic from the link on front page. Some can stay right with Chris while playing Bach, or they just jam with great speed and cleanliness. When I grow up I want to play like a 12yr old http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I recognized one of them as Dominic Leslie. He won the Rockygrass mandolin competition by busting out some crazy Thile piece in the finals. I'm not sure of any of the others.

Dominic was one, yes. I only know first names, maybe you guys can help with last names?

Jacob (Jake)
Dominic
Bryce (Brice?)
Sarah
Rachael

And this one kid Jared who man SHOULD have been in that class. Amazing improver, he blew me away!

Rachael Masat (playing the Rigel R100) is the young lady I used to sponsor with an A+ Deluxe. She owns that R100 BTW & is a phenomenal talent. I bought my first mando from her at a garage sale & hearing her play was what got me started ....

yep..that's Sam Grisman on bass. #I saw Bryce (Brice?) at Merlefest a lot. #He seemed to be popping up everywhere I went (I went to all the mando things, Thile things, and Marshall things, so I wasn't too surprised he was there too!) #He seems like a cool kid. #I really wanna try to audition for the Level 5 class if I can for this "East Coast symposium." #I'm practicing a WHOLE LOT more than I have in the past, I'm enjoying it more, and I seem more focused. Plus, the world needs more mandolin players under the age of 18! #The sad thing is, I'm in high school and the only way I'll get to go in March is if it perfectly lines up with our school's spring break. #I'm praying, trust me...
