Sure, but who made him take it outside?

The occasional 7/8 bar keeps one guessing.

I think his mom said "That thing is too loud and twangy, take it outside!"

:)

Now, can a mandolin play bluegrass?

Hey now! Just cuz he's still wearing tie-dye even though he's follically challenged does NOT necessarily mean he's still living in his folks' house!

Here's his other video. He's got some energy and gumption, that's for sure. Now, Satchel Paige did once say, "Don't look back - someone might be gaining on you," but I don't think Jim Richter's got to worry, just yet. ;) Me neither, for that matter. Don't worry - I'll be backing that up soon, now that I understand the technology. Got the rockin' down, though ... :mandosmiley:

Mike - if they're still not technically advanced enough over thar, search youtube for mandomaniac or Tim Prosser.

What kinda pancake are you playin' there? Looks like Koa wood.

Thanks for the comments, everybody. The mandolin is a zebra wood instrument custom made by Terry (last name slips my mind) at Herb David's Guitar Studio in Ann Arbor, MI. It isn't a fabulous instrument, but has good volume and decent playability (and it's my best one).

The tie dye is something I like - it's cheery, bright, and fun - and I have a big collection of it. I don't care if it's out of style, either (thought they tell me it's making a comeback among teenagers now). I plan to look better in future videos, though I can probably only manage incremental improvements.

For decades I was all about technique, but that has changed as I realized I would never likely approach a Chris Thile, Mike Marshall, or any of those other true greats. The last year or two it's become all about bringing out the soul of the song and making it rock that matter to me. I never sang much beyond a bit of backup until the last ten years, either, recognizing I had only a 7 note range, but the past couple of years my voice has begun to come into its own, and I plan to keep at it as long as possible.
Glad you enjoyed my music, and thanks for the comments and compliments.
Keep on jammin'!

Sounds good, and loud ... louder than the wind!

Hey, that's more than Stevie Nicks has, and she does OK ... ;)

Good to hear from you. This crazy place works so well by being so inclusionary. Keep on keepin' on!
