do any of you know if any of the shops in nashville can do set ups by appointment.....i took my mando in to a local shop today but he said it would take at least a week (although he did not seem very busy) and i told him i'd have serious withdrawal effects in much less than a week....i'm planning a trip to nashville soon to have a few guitars appraised at gruhns and would like to get my el cheapo fender set up properly 'while' i'm there....pobbible?

If the intonation is off try THIS. (http://www.folkofthewood.com/8ppmandobridge/sld001.htm) It is a tutorial on installing a mandolin bridge and adjusting intonation by moving the bridge. If the frets are not in the correct positions (a possibility with an el cheapo) then a simple set-up won't do the trick. Then the fix could cost more than the mando if it is really a cheap one.

If you are in town on a weekday you can get a set up done at either our Valley Arts store on Church street by Dave Harvey or at the Bluegrass Showcase by Jackie Miller. Both are exceptional and you will find no better anywhere on the planet. It does not matter what brand.
