I set the intonation on a mandolin I am using and all is well except the A string is registering sharp. I have tried to angle the nut groove more toward the headstock, but that has not helped. Please make suggestions.

Also, in setting the string height. What are the measurements for treble and bass sides to start with.

Thanks all.

Chuck, I usually adjust the intonation at the bridge rather than the nut. Assuming the A string is sharp when fretted at, say, the twelfth fret, you'd want to move the ramp on the bridge back a little.

For the action height, are you asking about the height at the nut, or the bridge? By the way, it's usually best to set the action before adjusting compensation, because changing the action changes the bridge position and can affect the compensation.

Thank you Andrew. The intonation is correct at the 12th fret except for the A string.

I will set the action and then recheck.
