"Have a cuppa Tea" has drifted in and out of my jam repertoire over the years...

Most underrated band. No one under 30 listens to them it seems. Victoria is the coolest song. Go download it from Itunes.... Lola Vs Powerman and the MoneygoRound is an amazing album. Every time you listen to it you hear something new. And Dave Davies is a killer guitar player.
So underrated...

I'm 23 and love the Kinks. My folks got me a two-disc box set (To the Bone) of theirs when I was about 8 years old along with a whole bunch of other fantastic rock albums.
I work "I'm Not Like Everybody Else" into sets from time to time, and have jammed along with countless others.
Whoever said Dave Davies is underrated is right. The first rock player to EVER record with distortion (and "invented" the sound by slashing open a speaker cone out of frustration because the sound was too wimpy - how cool is that?). His leads on the live tracks in that box set are very soulful.

Hear hear, Kinks are the miles ahead of the Stones and the Beatles in my book. Was that the Arista or the RCA Kinks set?

Your connection isn't too far fetched. Listen to some of the swede 'Pilgrim Sisters' work with Karin Forsman and twin sister. I think she still backs Ray (Davies) when he's out.

The Kinks was the only band of the British Invasion that was kool and relavent in the 60's,70's and the 80's. In the 80's when I was punker and toured with The Cramps The Kinks were their favorite band.

very classy band - might be the kiss of death to say so but i thought they were a preppy band as well - tres ok. i'm working on "waterloo sunset" at the moment.
dave davies' guitar break on "you really got me" was an all-time favorite air-guitar break ... sports jacket and tie (they wouldn't let you in otherwise), sweaty, seventeen and steppin' out with ... sue!

Jimmy Page plays on a lot of the Kinks stuff as a session man.
The first rock player to EVER record with distortion (and "invented" the sound by slashing open a speaker cone out of frustration because the sound was too wimpy - how cool is that?).
Dick Dale would probably argue that point.
Of course, if you read his web site, Dick Dale also invented the amplifier, the wheel, and Eric Clapton.
Nonetheless, Kinks are great.
One of the first things I learned on guitar was that little two-note riff from "You really Got Me." Just two notes, yet instantly recognizable as a classic. Too cool.
Dick Dale would probably argue that point.
Oops...got Dick Dale and Link Wray mixed up....

Jumping on this Kinks thread late, but I thought I'd add this. I was around during the '60's when the Kinks were hitting & I liked their hits. I did see them live in '70 or '71 and I thought they were great. Then, I kinda forgot about them. It was just that I didn't listen to Rock as much as I used to.
Not under 30? My son,who is now 27, has been listening to the Kinks for years & loves them. My 19 year old daughter picked up on them a couple of years ago & digs them too. They talk about songs & albums I never picked up on. (Altho they think it's hip I heard them live).
It's like "Old-Time" music to them. That can really date you.

Village Green is my favorite of their material next to Muswell Hillbillies. Tim O'Brien does a great cover of Muswell Hillbillies.
My 14 year old LOVES the Kinks and has alot of it on his IPOD. His email name contains "...powerman..." in it.
