Saw the Karl Shiflett show this weekend and was genuinely impressed by the clarity and balance the group was getting with their "one-mic" show...I thought I heard Karl mention that they were using Audio-Technica - but I didn't get the model...anybody know?

You can hit the AT website and take a peek at what models they have and visually compare, although they all look similar enuff.... Was it all black?

We have an AT4033/e but I think it was replaced by the 4047.

It looks like an old RCA 44BX ribbon mic, but I'm sure it isn't. #The 44 was a figure 8, and micing the audience wouldn't be such a great idea...

I think it's probably a fake 44BX stage prop (http://www.wesdooley.com/z-p/AEA_Replica_Microphones_and_Parts.html#stageprop) made by Wes Dooley, and loaded with a large-diaphram AT condensor or the like...

Cool look for sure...

Thanks...it DID have some sort of 'cover' on it made to look like an old WSM mic...during the show Karl notes the makers of all of the instruments the band's playing and thanks his sponsors...that's where he mentioned Audio-Technica 40xx something?

Someone asked how he managed to get such a good vocal blend without on-stage monitors....he said "we just turn the mains up enough to hear them without feeding back to the stage...

The group's stagework was great fun to watch and every note from every instrument was as crisp as any multi-mic show I've seen...BTW, the bass was seperately mic'd...

i believe it's a at-4033 inside a fake rca 44 housing--made by a.e.a. (the same as mine)

Our band opened for them about three years ago (when Lyle Meador played mandolin), and at that time it was an AT 4033 inside a fake but cool cover.

for the record--the aea housing is not a fake covering...it's a exact replica of a original rca 44 mic body...the parts are interchangable with #the original rca 44...the aea replica housing is very expensive ($900) and that is with no mic inside the housing..if you want a custom "flag" with call letters that mounts above the mic it is around $300. they are making a cheaper "stage" model now ($600) but i haven't seen one
