My brother surprised me with tickets to Spinal Tap, Unwigged and Unplugged last night at Oakland's Paramount Theater, and it was a blast. Guest, McKean, and Shearer played many of the tunes they penned as Spinal Tap and the Folksmen, so Guest pulled out his Monteleone (or Monteleone-inspired) mandolin several times. The whole show was great, but my favorite moments were their acoustic version of Stonehenge, and their hilarious Bluegrassy cover of the Rolling Stones' Start Me Up.

If you get a chance to see them at a venue near you, you will not be disappointed. :mandosmiley:

They were on The Tonight Show three weeks ago, but no mandolin. :(

Good rendition of "Hell Hole," funny interview. (http://www.hulu.com/watch/65825/the-tonight-show-spinal-tap)

LOL!

BTW, they also played a few short films and youtube vids on thier overhead screen, including this Cheese Rolling segment that starts at 1:50 into this old Spinal Tap trailer...

Glad to hear about this. I wasted no time in getting tickets to their show in Detroit.

An msnbc.com article (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/30632309/)about the group and tour included this pic, which shows Christopher Guest on mandolin.
