I just heard about Kenny Blackwell and Dorian Michael (http://www.kenny-dorian.com/) earlier this week. They're touring around some in southern Michigan and northern Indiana. Sound clips are available at the site. Quite an eclectic blend of styles and genres - all done very, very well. Kenny's on mandolin and Dorian's on guitar. Tasty, tasty stuff.

Quick concert review: Don't miss them if you have a chance! Very friendly folks with lots of great licks. Lots of great original material with a few traditional tunes and a nod to Bill Monroe. Check out the MP3s on the site noted above. I think they'll be in a much larger venue the next time they come around... Kenny played an F-style Howard Mandolin (not familiar with that name) with an under the bridge pickup that was very clean and well-rounded in tone (okay, so it was sent through an EQ... but it still sounded great!). Dorian was equally tasty playing finger style guitar and a National Steel. Bought their CD and Dorian's "Acoustic Blues" DVD with Albert Lee and Laurence Juber. Looking forward to learning some blues...

Hey, these guys are out and about again, especially in the Indiana, Illinois, and Michigan area. Check them out! (http://www.kenny-dorian.com/) Kenny is one phenomenal musican in a variety of styles. Just saw them again tonight in Goshen, IN.
Best,
Phil (getting ready for a gig tomorrow morning as part of the "Faithful Bread" at Central District Conference of the Mennonite Church USA.)

Kenny is one of the most amazing and versatile mandolin players I have ever met...... with solid Bluegrass credentials as well....Kenny is mando player with Laurel Canyon Ramblers and has worked on many California bluegrass recordings. Go see Kenny if you have a chance...you won't be disappointed. Also one of the best luthiers in the business!
