I'm on the home straight on building a Sobell inspirted bouzar...

Rosewood back & sides, Euro Spruce top, Ebony fretboard & bridge, mahogany neckbone nut saddle & pins

still a LOT of setup to do, but so far I'm really liking playing it. BIG boomy bass, and good bright trebles too

It was commissioned by a local player znd he's still to have his "do I actually like it enough to keep it, or do I want my deposit back?" meeting, but y'know what?

If he decides it's not for him, I'll not be too upset at all!!!

Scale length is 650mm... like a martin acoustic

bracing is a double X... think Lowden guitar.

and bouzar is Stefan Sobell's fault, not mine!!

bouzar is Stefan Sobell's fault, not mine!!
According to Maartin Alcock, it's Andy Irvine we have to blame, see:

Whatever, it looks like you've employed some marvellous craftsmanship there Martin. A stunning instrument!

Yes, looks just like the sobell bouzar that Andy Irvine plays.
From what I hear, they have a great sound for doing a lot of solo playing. I was thinking of just converting an acoustic into a guitar bouzouki, but building one would be fun as well ;)

Looks great, nice job!

Beautiful, Martin!!

I like your version of the Sobell body shape. How deep is the body?

I also really like that there's not much taper on the neck, that is, that the
fretboard doesn't get much wider toward the body.

Well done! I hope you'll post some audio of it some time. I'd love to hear it!

Thanks and congrats!

OK, here's me not being able to play it!! (http://soundclick.com/share?songid=7542812)

I can play a tiny bit of mandolin but I'm a guitarist really. this is me noodling around with it, open strings then capo 7. I have to say I LOVE this thing!!!

Steve, the body is deep. prolly too deep to be honest, but it comes it at 120mm which is about 4 3/4"
