Jasona that's too much!
I went through a Heavy Metal (didn't play, just listened) period in my younger days...all the while pickin' bluegrass music! As a matter of fact, I still have many CD's from that time including the entire 'Metallica' library. :))
If Rob Halford sang bluegrass would he fake a southern accent? :disbelief:

Or a little AC/DC?
or some Queen - live! The mandolinist breaks a string, runs offstage, gets fixed up, and runs back in time to take a lead. Fun! :mandosmiley:
These guys are great! What they do works because not only do they have a great concept, they're really good pickers! :mandosmiley:
Also, check out The Gourds - Gin & Juice. Similar approach, driven by some strong rhythm mandolin. There are a bunch of live versions at youtube but I've found only one studio version so far, with some pretty lame footage to go along with it.

FBG song works because it's essentially a BG song played pop by Queen. I bet it was originally played this way. Used to know Brian May, should have asked him way back when. They are good pickers though to be sure!
