Just thought I would take a moment to let everyone know that there's a good deal on an old Gibby oval hole on ebay. No vested interest of any kind in it, just saw it and thought I would let my fellow mandoholics know.

$750 was the Buy it Now. Somebody snatched that one up quick. Must have been the publicity. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif that's cheap for one of those!

Look at the pics of the neck, looks twisted.

Good call! Serious twist.

Most all Gibsons of the period exhibit that twist. The necks are actually installed that way (meaning there is really no twist in the neck itself). I haven't seen it be a problem, and I don't know whether it was intentional or not.

This is true of the one we had hanging up in the shop. Gorgeous Gibson 'teens tone, a sweet subtlety about it that can only come from near hundred year old wood.
I didn't pick it up myself because I wasn't willing to fight the inherent minor intonation problems that would perpetually plague it's owner.
Still, what a lovely tone...

I don't know, there's got to be something to be said for a fingerboard that's willing to meet you halfway! -- PDW
