Hi Everyone,
Glad I found this website. I'm just learning to play the mandolin and purchased one online. It looks great except that the bridge, which has two adjustable screws for raising or lowering, looks odd because the screw down by the higher tone strings is screwed all the way down and the one by the lower tone strings is much higher up and not screwed in much at all. It ends up looking angled rather than flush with the mandolin. Is this right?? It is a George Schmidt (sp?) and sounds great but I'm not sure whether the bridge is supposed to be that way.
Thanks for reading this rambling message and thanks for your input!

The bridge must be angled that way, olddog. The lower tone strings are bigger in diameter and swing in a wider oscillation. If the bridge wasn't higher on the low strings they would bang against the fretboard and you would get what we call string buzz.

It must to be that way.

It's sounds like the fingerboard is warped to me. Or, one side of the top is higher than the other. It's OK as long as you can use the adjusting screws to make the strings parallel to the fingerboard. But, when run out of room for adjustment you are in toulbe.
