So I'm working n a drill that is all Sixteenth notes. I am told to play four sixteenth notes in the space of time it takes to say bird. I have done this but it seems that I am getting very aggressive with the strings. Is this common? Will it get to be a mote finesse technique as I get better at it? I still tend to catch the wrong string once in a while. Thanks all I just don't want to start busting strings trying for good sets of sixteenth notes. Watch the smiley I imagine that is what my hand looks like playing this drill heck I even think I'm grinin. John http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif

Maybe try slowing down and play as fast as you can without an agressive sound, then keep pushing it up slowly.

Thanks peterbc I tried that and it helped. I also tried a pick with a rounder tip. Wow slowing down and the rounder tip helped a lot. I went back to the pointier tip and my technique there was also improved. All I need to do is keep doing this every day. At this point I've picked 10 different pieces I practice every day and add a new one every couple weeks. A lot for a straight through practice but great for commercial breaks. Thanks again John
