A nice old mandolin too. Anyone know what it is?
Hansard performs a remarkably faithful cover of REM's Hairshirt on Hulu (http://www.hulu.com/watch/62249/late-night-with-jimmy-fallon-thu-mar-12-2009#s-p1-so-i0). A short ad runs and then you can move up to 36:00 on the timeline.

Is THAT what it was? I didn't recognize the song, so I assumed it was original, especially since it's so suited to his style. Interesting miking approach, eh? One mike, equidistant from instrument and voice. I thought it was a bowlback at first, as that's the style that has those tuning pegs most often, but a side shot showed it had a flat back as well as top. Anyway, it has the singular status of being the first mandolin to appear on the Jimmy Fallon Show - FWIW ... :whistling:

You can watch it here (http://lookingcloser.org/2009/03/glen-hansard-sings-rem/) if you'd rather. Nice work.

Sweet - this way you don't have to forward through the rest of the show to get to the clip. :)
Still wondering about the mfr of the mandolin. Didn't see one similar at the Mandolin Musuem.
PS: How do you imbed a link like that? I've been copying and pasting but it looks, ah, unprofessional.

Thanks so much! I tried searching on the word "link" and went through the FAQ but couldn't find it. Ask the experts and - ta da!
