i think the chord progression for this holland-dozier-holland song (by the supremes) is: D#-G#-E#m-B#m and (i think) G#-Bb-D# - but i'm not sure i've identified the chords properly. if interested, would someone please have a go at it, using these chords, and see if it makes sense.
grazie - bill

don't know how many are interested in this stuff (oeuvre!) but here's an acappella version of the song by the supremes - great for playing along with:

Interesting clip-- sounds like it's the vocals pulled out of the original mix. I'm hearing it in D, Bill:
D//G D/// D//G D/// D//G D/// D//G D///
Em/// Bm/// Em/// Bm///
Em/F#m/ G/// Em/F#m/ G///
G/// Gm/// D//G D/// D//G D///
This is going from memory and what I'm hearing on the itunes 30-second sample-- as usual it fades out before you get to the tricky bit you want to check.
All the best with that "oeuvre" of yours!

you're right about the accappella version ... but listen to this:

... seems to be a half step up.
what a fabulous song! ... oeuvre and out - bill

Right, Bill, the TV version (dubbed) is higher and faster-- possibly it was sped up to get the cut into the allotted broadcast time.
Keep up the good Werk.

Hi Bill
I think Bruce has it right. Interesting that it never uses a 5 chord. I love it when writers can resolve songs using atypical progressions.
I found a version here (http://bettylou.zzruss.com/comeseeaboutme.htm) that is wrong in a couple of places - and so obviously, I about fell over when I played it that way. :)) These people should really try out their guesses - that's what they must be - before posting. The only reason I'm sending that link is there's a midi accompaniment track there that's a real hoot - this person REALLY got it wrong! :disbelief:
And yes - that must have been sped up, because it's not even exactly a half tone sharp. Weird. But it's nice to see The Supremes in peak form. They all really had it going on, not just Diana.
When Phil Collins remade "You Can't Hurry Love," I remember reading he said he'd never heard it before, :disbelief: someone suggested it to him. I don't know how he could have missed it - they were unavoidable back then for like three years. Even in England, I'll wager.

Hey, they're talking about a tune I know, for once in my life.*
The sheet music is in D:

I've always played it in G. A genius tune, my 2 fav parts are when it goes to the Amin and when the C goes to a Cmin.
G C G
I've been crying boo-hoo
G C G
'Cause I'm lonely girl - for you
G C G
Smiles have all turned in - to tears
G C G
Tears can't wash away the fears
C Amin
From my arms you may be out of reach
C Amin
but my heart says that you're here to teach
Amin Bmin C
Keeps me cryin' baby for you
Amin Bmin C
Keeps me sighin' baby for you
C Cmin
So why don't you hurry, come on girl
G
and see about me (come see about me)
(Then at the end there is a little change to the refrain
Inst:C chord with notes C C B A to a G chord
C chord with notes C C B D to a G chord
C C G C C G
Some times up some times down
my life's so uncertain with you not around
(then it's back to the Amin part.)
