OK, so I listen to a wide variety of music...
And the other day, I'm on an 80's metal kick, listening to some classic Iron Maiden, and I realized that you could almost do some of their tunes bluegrass style. Certainly, the dual lead guitar riffs and melodies would appear to be fun to play on mando.
So tonight, I think I'll don the headphones and try playing along with the boys on The Trooper, or Run To The Hills...
Can anyone out their relate, or am I just crazy?

There's a band online called Iron Horse, and they do a lot of heavy metal covers on BlueGrass instruments. I think their sample page (http://www.ironhorsebluegrass.com/sample_songs.htm)has some Iron Maiden.
Either way, you're not crazy. Give it a try!

You might want to google Hayseed Dixie (ACDC). That's just fun.

No, that rocks - I've always like Maiden. There are a number of good melodies you could play I suspect.
My favorite of theirs personally has always been Rime of the Ancient Mariner, the slower part in the middle of the song would be a fun one to play.
I dunno if it would work on mando, but man, if metal ever got better than Hallowed be thy name, I'd like to see it. Electric mando, maybe, with a whole lot of gain and crunch!

I listened to some of the metallica and led zeppelin there and I think I threw up a little.:disbelief:
There's a real killer album by Frank Vignola, Matt Flinner, and Casey Driessen, where they do a medley of Slayer tunes instrumental. It's called Slayer in the Grass, I believe. killer album.

There are plenty here who can relate, and we can't be sure who's crazy. :mandosmiley: :whistling:
But we're pretty sure we ain't normal. That's for them folks playing guitars and pianos and such. Leastways that's closer to normal.
Anyway, you should also take a look at this thread, (http://www.mandolincafe.com/forum/showthread.php?t=49770) "How about a little Judas Priest?" Bound to enjoy some of that there.
And there is a ton of stuff at youtube from Hayseed Dixie and The Gourds. 'Nuff said!
