Traditional Bluegrass legend Mac Martin is playing 3 dates in Northern California March 20 Asbury United Pres. Church in Livermore, 21nd Ist Pres Church in Mountainview and 22nd -at the Freight and Salvage- Berkeley.

If you know who is you won't want to miss him and if you don't well then you shouldn't. He was there from the start and he's still performing. He came last year and they formed a band for him called the "California Travelers" that consisted of Butch Waller,Paul Shelaskey,Keith Little,Kathy Kallick and Lisa Berman. I think they'll do the same this time.

I think he's in his 80's and was still looking/sounding good last year. He usually just plays guitar and sings in a performance situation but he's a pretty good mandolin player and he does have a Loar that would come out in jam situations. The band had some pretty good mandolin players over the years and notably Bob Artis in the 70's. The Dixie Travelers never traveled, they played the same bar every Saturday night in Pittsburgh for at least two decades. The big names would come to him. Mac has this ability to remember the lyrics of every song he ever heard and I think he only had to hear it once.
