By any chance, does anybody have a tab transcription of Robert Johnson "Crossroads" cover by Sam "The Wizard" Bush ? http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif

Good Luck! I've been searching for this forever. We play a bastardized version in my band and I try and emulate as best I can.

I've watched him perform this on stage 4 or 5 times and still can figure it all out. I've seen him play this w/ the band, solo and in duo's styles and everytime it's different. He's yet to record this on any album that I'm aware of.

He drives the main riff out of a standard chop G chord and drops it a half step to F# unlike the original version of Robert Johnson or Cream that drops a whole step to the F. He does this for obvious reasons, the neck isn't long enough to drop to the F.

Other than that, it's pretty much standard 1/4/5 blues tune where verses start on the 4 with lots of rocking sevenths.

For his solo's, he uses a lot of doublestops and open strings and never ever plays it the same way twice.

My favorite version is on a bootleg call the bluegrass session w/ just him and Jerry Douglass, the float into Little Feat's Sailin Shoes in the middle of it.......12 minutes of sheer Sammy heaven.

Many thanks Patrick,

Another great version of the Sailin'shoes/Crossroads blues medley is the one on the Merle Fest 1992 video tape with Al Perkins and then Emmylou and the rest of the band joinin' in ! If by any chance, you've heard the Bluegrass Box workshop tape with Sam & Jorma Kaukonen, you'd fell off your chair ! A bientôt ! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif
