I am a little reluctant to post this here with all the great looking mandolins others are building, but here it is anyway. Just finished it earlier this week. It is my first to build, although I have a start on a more traditional styled tear drop one and plans for a two point arched top.
This one is small, only 22 1/4" long and 9 1/4" wide, but it has a standard 13 7/8" scale length. I utilized non-traditinal materials such as a yellow pine soundboard, HPL sides and back and teak fretboard. It would be the one to take camping or to the beach.

I really like the looks of this instrument. Good work. I like the peghead shape. Thanks for sharing.

Whatever you do, Curious, don't be reluctant to post pictures - that is a great-looking instrument! Some of us here are more turned on by simple flatback styles than those other gaudy ones, y'know!

Hear, Hear! F-style mandolins can be objects of beauty, make no mistake. But I find it a shame that so many people regard them as the definitive mandolin and that any simpler design is somehow further down the ladder. I champion the cause of the flat-topped, flat-backed, teardrop-shaped mandolin. As for Bill's one above, apart from the fact that, as far as I can see, it looks neat and well made, I like the fact that it is an unusual design, without being over the top or tasteless. May this be the first of many (which it probably already is, judging by the when it was posted).

I take my hat off to ANYONE who can produce a working instrument, I have enough trouble nailing 2 bits of wood together http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif Not being a great fan of fs I really like the simplicity of this one bet is sounds as good as it looks.

Concerning your question about a "topless mandolin", .... oops, wrong thread. Never mind.

Is that one of those "push-up" mandolins?

very nice looking first mando! You took a few chances with your design and it came out really attractive. You have me aching to give one a try.
