Anybody tried Black Diamond coated strings? Unlike others, all the strings are coated. I see where Valerie Smith and Liberty Pike are using them including their great mando player John Wesley Lee.
Thanks

I spent my youth playing on Black Diamond strings for the same reason as stated in the refrain
of Guy Clark's song;

Black Diamond Strings

Are like white flour and grits

You play Black Diamond Strings

‘Cause it’s all you can get

I have seen the coated guitar strings, played 'm they weren't nothing you would write home about.

I have a set of the black coated Black Diamond strings on my Rigel Jethro which has a black top, a pretty neat look I think. I will most likely change them out for a set of my old standby j-74s in a few weeks and will only then be able to give a somewhat objective opinion on how they sound but so far I think they sound allright. After about a month of playing some of the plain strings are starting to loose their coating and one of the E strings seemed a little brittle as the peghead end broke as I was winding the string on and although I had enough string left to install the string up to pitch as I was walking out of the room after playing it for only a few minutes I heard a 'pop' and when I came back in the room that same string had broken at the loop end by the tailpiece. Must have been something wrong with that string but all the others have been fine.
