For over a year I've wanted a Heiden. So many "picking pals" I see several times a year are completely satisfied (and they're fussy players!) with their Heidens they bought 5 or 6 years ago. When they tell me what they paid then, I KNOW they "got in while the getting was good"!

My question: what is a fair price today for a used Heiden? Please don't give me the "what someone will pay" response . . . or rather, if you do, please tell me what people ARE paying for a resale Heiden!

Thanks for aiding and abetting my M.A.S. . . .

My suggestion would be to call Micheal Heiden and see if he has any mandolins for sale. He sometimes has mandolins that repeat buyers offer up for sale. I bought one from him and it is one of the best mandolins I ever played, plus you get to talk to one of the most knowledgeable and sincere people you will ever speak to.

Michael's F-5's are bringing $7000 to $9000. Kenc

I agree with Greg. I spoke with Michael back in April and he had two Mandolins at that time. I bought my Heiden from Peter Mix nearly two years ago and will be hard parted from it. It has gotten better and better with age. Chris Thile played it before a show in May and seemed to be really impressed with it. I had another custom instrument there as well that was newer and he played it about five minutes. His whole demeanor changed when he started playing the Heiden. He didn't stop playing it for 20 minutes and also asked Sean to play it so he could listen to it. It was the first time he had played one of Michaels mandolins. Regarding price, I've seen them posted for as much as $10K recently. The two most recent postings were for laquer finish instruments I believe. I am not certain that they ended up selling for that. Mitch Simpson had # 32 posted for around $7500 recently. I think that one is laquer as well. Good luck!
