is out of print or that is what I read on amazon.com. Seems the Bear Family has dropped this and a few other Monroe box sets from their sale list. Amazon had a few used copies left at $90 which I think is pretty good. Worth that for the Monroe's finest crown of creation, Masters of the Mandolin CD and the book that comes with it. They listed new copies at $155 and I think I saw a few on ebay at $130. Just thought I would bring this up for those of you that want this Monroe classic but have put off buying it. Pretty soon you won't have the chance to own one and prices tend to go up on stuff like this once they quit making them. Kinda like Loars.

I'm glad I got my copy. I got the vinyl when it first came out and the Bear Family sets as they came out.

I don't know if the Bear Family co.have stopped issuing the Bill Monroe boxed sets because they weren't selling due to the high pricing, but the prices in the UK were £99.00 UK ($145 US).- way too much for me. I could have got them at half that price from the US,but the cost of shipping plus duty & tax would have sent the price back up.
As far as i know they now own the original masters of all the Monroe recordings - i may be wrong in that ?. I do wish however, that they'd release the original "Bluegrass Instrumentals" as a single CD. It's a classic set of the original recordings of many tunes that became Monroe 'standards'. We'll just have to see what happens now,
