I've run into a problem and I'm looking for suggestions. I recently got what is for me and expensive instrument (An Ellis A5). I called up my renters insurance to make sure it was covered, and unfortunately, I told them that I'm sometimes compensated for playing when they asked. According to them, this makes me a "professional" :)) and as such, my instument is not covered.

Since I made literally tens of dollars last year in my professional capacity, I'm in a fix, as insurance through someone like Heritage runs at least $250 a year. Other ideas for insuring instruments for less? Or, do I just have to drop some coin for piece of mind? Thanks for your ideas!

BTW - The Ellis is AWESOME and worth every bit of worry!

I have had insurance with Clarion for a few years.
http://www.clarionins.com/

I have been shopping for a better rate. I tried Anderson Group:
https://www.anderson-group.com/

and Heritage:
http://www.musicins.com/

I believe they are all good companies. Read about their coverage on their websites. Ask questions. And when they give you a rate ask them "Can you give me a better rate?" It works, they should give you a lower rate.

Tell your agent you made a mistake and play the b**jo for money. Claim brain damage?,, They will likely start writing you checks.

I've had Clarion, Heritage, and am now with Anderson. I'm with Anderson due to the fact that the coverage amounts are the same.......but there is a deductible.......which results in a lower premium. That is about the only difference between the three.

Thanks to all of you for the helpful replies. Think I'm gonna check out Anderson as I'm pretty from from the $25K minimum with Heritage.
