Got to see Punch Brothers tonight at the taping of a Woodsongs Old Time Radio Hour, in Lexington. The Loar was in action, the sound was excellent so I could hear it very well.

It has a very different tone than the Dude. Very throaty if that makes any sense. Chris was making full use of the fretboard extension throughout the night going up as far as he could and it was as cleanly and clearly noted as you'd expect.

If that Loar sat around not being played for most of it's life and if it has yet to fully open up then it is going to be a fantastic instrument when it does mature and Chris is really pulling some tone out of it now. Glad I got to see it live finally after two Punch shows in the last few months.

I'm sorry to threadjack this a bit, but is anybody else suffering from a bit of Loar fatigue? I find myself wishing every time this subject comes up that he hadn't got the thing, because people are now more interested in the instrument than the music, which is a real shame. I'd enjoy a Punch Brothers show just as much if Chris were playing his Dude, his Loar, or a $50 Rogue.

They are making some of the best and most interesting new music that I know of, and all that anybody seems to care about is that it's being done on an 85 year old wooden box.

They played the whole Blind Leaving the Blind suite.

Yes. And at this point they flat out own that piece of music. It's the 2nd time I've seen them play it and it's very entertaining to watch & listen to them play it so well.

Even if Chris does play an 80 year old wooden box.

Loar's are cool. I mean, like, Fonzie cool.

I wish Chris didn't play at all but just held it up for us to look at.
