Somehow I thought Schaller made a mando set of tuners with a horizontal shaft for slotted headstock. However....can't seem to locate any.
Anyone have any info on makers and sources for horizontal shaft mando tuners??? Thanks!

Hey Bill,
Checked with International Luthier Supply in Tulsa...they don't have any Schaller tuners...appaently Schaller has shipping issues. So if anyone else can help, please chime in! Thanks. Tom

Guess nobody out there is goofy enough to use slotted headstock on mandos and need horizontal shaft tuners. Might have to change design if simply not available. Please holler if you have info!!
Thanks...Tom

International Luthiers Supply (http://www.internationalluthiers.com/machineheadsp3.php) lists Gotoh horizontal shafts. They have Schallers but they do not seem to mention the horizontal ones.

I have some gold plated high quality tuners on my Italian bowlback which may be Schallers. I imagine there is not too much call for them in the US, more in Europe.

I could get some Waverly machines in that configuration. The difference between them and regular ones is only that the string posts are cut for solid headstocks and left straight for slotted headstocks.

Jim, I saw those in their catalog ,too....but they said they did not have any horizontal shaft tuners when I called.

Michael, Interesting! I thought the hole placement in the shaft would also be different. What is the spacing from baseplate to hole? I better try a solid headstock on this prototype first...considering the $$$ involved for Waverly tuners. If body design /construction is a keeper... since the mando really needs the slotted headstock to get full effect of design...I will get in touch with you on the horizontal shaft Waverly sets. Thanks! Tom
