Hey there Mandolin Cafe,
I recently spent 10 weeks in a different town and for some reason while I was away I kept thinking "I wish I'd brought my ocarina with me so I could learn it" (I had a bit of spare time). So when I got home I had a good scout around and apparently I've put it somewhere "clever" which means I can't find it.
So I have two questions...
1- Does anyone know where I put my ocarina? ;) :whistling:
and
2- Has anyone else ever misplaced a musical instrument?
Look forward to you tales (or irate rantings if you must)

Here it is. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2fTNbaK4KaM)
I lost a Silvertone electric guitar in a bus station in Colorado Springs in 1968; nothing since.

Wild Thing!
You make my...Ocarina Sing!
You make....everything...disappear....
My cats were all sitting staring at me as I played the above video; as if to say: That's no mandolin!

Allen, how come it never sounded like that when I played it?

Not off hand - did anybody tell you where to put it?
I lost my kazoo. Nobody helped me look for it. :crying:

My wife once hid my high G tin whistle!
Sorry to hear about all the wild fires going on down there. Our prayers are with you.

Nowhere near me thankfully (1200kms away) but those affected will certainly appreciate that.

Well, you're "OzMando," and he's "hindocarina," so there you have it...

I was looking for my keys this morning and I found my G harmonica in the sofa.

I lost my banjo -- and my friends wouldn't tell me where they disposed of it.

Maybe it's secretly making music somewhere with my ocarina and coffeecup's kazoo ?

I have an 'American Broadkaster' ocarina (by Gretsch!) in it's original box. I hate the sound but bought it (for $2) so I could make a killing in the vintage ocarina market someday.

I'm pretty sure I just saw a penguin walking by, playing it. He was headed north, so you'll probably have it back in ten years (they don't walk very fast).

I think I lost a tune, but can't recall.
I always know where my mandolin is. My car keys, now, that's another matter!

Nice Aussie reference! Well done

A dingo ate your ocarina. (more of a Seinfeld reference).
Then you may need to follow it around with a plastic bag to get it back. (more of a Cheech & Chong reference)

It turned into a sweet potatoe. I was just in Santa Fe, N.M. and saw one of those in a shop. It sounds like a happy little instrument. Somehting you'd want to play at summer camp.

Whenever I lose something like that, I always ask my wife.
Problem is..... I always get the same stock answer.
"Where did you last use it".
But I can tell you.... that stock answer becomes really frustrating after years of hearing it. :(

I bought an ocarina as a souvenir in Italy back in 1982. I had just come out of the Vatican and I was walking to the Spanish stairs. It was handmade, and I was just pleased that it wasn't the usual carved elephants. Over the years I've learned to play it when I'm bored. By now I can play quite a few things on it. The only thing I've ever recorded with it were background sound effects for a discussion about Africa but it is fun to play.

You might ask The Cat Empire -- I thought I heard Harry Angus playing one on their last CD.

I quite like the (slightly dorky, but in a cool way) recorder solo on their first big release

That would be good to take along to the next yam session. You might get to do a duet with a tuber.

Golden cymbals flying on ocarina sounds,
Before wild medusas serpents gave birth to hell
Disguised as heaven.
