I have now, a couple paddlehead A mandos from the early 20s
And a recent Lebeda f5, and square peg /round hole test found the F appriciably smaller, in both thickness and width outline.[I tested an A in the formfitted TKL archtop case]
Is this a variation on the theme of Florentine body style, adjusted by each builder according to interpretation, and tone desired, or a change brought about by Mr Loars redesign and that change defines what others have emulated?

I'd say the answere is ...both.
Mr. Loar et al came up with the body shape that most builders of F5 style mandolins use, but not everyone builds a Loar copy.

mandroid, there are some differences among the available Loar plans, too. Mr. Lebedas F shape is, however, very different from "standard" F model of the 20s.
