The latest (Feb 2009) issue of Paste magazine has an article entitled "Objects of Their Affection: Five Musicians and the Instruments They Love" (pp. 42-47).
First up: a full page photo and accompanying paragraph blurb on Thile and his Dudenbostel, AKA Bosty McTriplet.
Also included are Ani DiFranco and an old Epiphone tenor; Alejandro Escovedo and a newish Gibson 339.

So do you think Thile will continue playing the Dude or eventually play the Loar as his main axe?

I thought the Loar was #1. At least it was when I recently waited out a live version of TBLTB to hear covers of Jimmy M, Jimmie R, & The Band. :whistling:

Hmm, he's always called it "Audrey."
He played the Loar at last Thursday's show, not sure about last night. I get the impression he wants it to be his main axe, but he's had to fiddle with it to get it right and while the work is done he always goes back to Dude #5.

He had the Loar last night as well. The band was great, as usual, but the Living Room is really not equipped to handle a concert of that size. I was there an hour and a half before showtime and I still ended up standing by the bar the whole night.

Here's the article on their website (http://www.pastemagazine.com/articles/2009/01/objects-of-their-affection.html?p=2). Chris is clearly holding his loar on the back of the Edgar Meyer & Chris Thile CD jacket, for what that might be worth.

Yes, though I don't believe he used it on that recording.

I believe the Loar is going to be #1right now, especially since they are playing more bluegrass tunes than nickel creek.
I bet when Thile records, it will depend on what he it recording. I doubt if he is recording a solo record and it has Bach that he will use the Loar. But you never know. Both are unreal mandolins, just two really distinct voices.
