Grisman played on a couple of tracks on last year's "Jefferson's Tree of Liberty" album.

My Goodness, that's a collaboration. Admittedly, have not kept up with JS for 25 years, but I only recognize 2 names.
Actually, caught them at Great Adventure in Jackson, NJ probably 18 years ago, they had Jack, Jorma, Papa John, Paul and Marty Balin. Great Adventure - my, my.
Should be an interesting show.
Just noticed that they'll be at the Birchmere on April 22 for those interstested and in the DC metro area.

The Starship MySpace page has samples from the new recording. Sounds like a mix of acoustic pieces and jangly folk rock. Kind of comfortably familiar to those of us in the Bay Area.

There are some images of Grisman in the video clip there, too. Maybe Grisman's collaboration with this crew will introduce a few more folks to our eight-string buddy.

Oooohhhhh, I thought it was a special tour through very small venues in counties bordering the boundary between California and Oregon. :D

I still think a Grisman Tom Waits collaboration would be great.

I saw Jefferson Starship at an open air festival in Scotland 2 summers ago. For the most part they were great - blasted a lot of younger acts off the stage.
Unfortunately they did an ill-advised medley of Imagine/ Redemption Song, which slightly spoilt it.
When Grisman plays live with these guys does he play through a mic or what?

So - Did you go? Has anyone seen one of these shows? Inquiring minds want to know!
Just the thought of JK and DG trading licks sends chills ... :mandosmiley: :mandosmiley: :mandosmiley:

Yeah, me too - Paul Kantner of course, and David Freiberg, bass player from Quicksilver Messenger Service. Slick Aguilar sounds familiar but I don't feel like researching right now.
My understanding was Paul couldn't call it "Jefferson Starship" if he was the only Airplane member, that it would have to be called just "Starship." Eh, whatever.
Funny ... probably around the same time as you I saw Jefferson Airplane at Lake Compounce Amusement Park in CT. An amusement park tour? OK ... I don't think Papa John was there, but everyone else and Grace too.
Saw them in a free impromptu concert with Grateful Dead at Montreal Expo in August 1967, and a couple of months after Woodstock at U. of New Haven gym for $3. :disbelief: Then there was the time I met Paul and Gracie when they were living in Bolinas in 1970 ... but that's another story ... ;)

My goodness, yes! He must be a prince of a fellow, not only being understanding about your MAS but even being encouraging about other mandolin-related activities.
Does he have a sister?  :whistling:
