RYE-jl
At least, that's the way my astronomy professor pronounced it...
Sometimes I hear REE-jl too.
Yes, I think there is a link as "Vega" (vintage banjo/mandolin maker) and "Rigel" are both stars (same constellation/Orion?) . RYE-jell is how I believe it is to be pronounced.

I've always thought it was Ree-gull. I have visited their booth at Merlfest twice and was not corrected. Let's ask Mr. Rigel.

i reckon its "rye-jel" after the star in orion. #cheer up, they could have chosen betelgeuse (shoulder star in orion)

It is named after the star.
This link to The American HeritageŽ Dictionary of the English Language: Fourth Edition. (http://www.bartleby.com/61/34/R0243400.html) which includes a WAV sound file for the pronunciation (http://www.bartleby.com/61/wavs/34/R0243400.wav) !

I think maybe some people are getting confused . . . http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif I'm not sure but Rigel and Regal are two different companies, and maybe the fact that some people have heard the Ree-gull pronunciation has something to do with hearing the Regal company's name. Who knows, maybe I'm the confused one, but as far as I know:
Rigel = Rye-gel
Regal = Ree-gull

HA! I don't believe it. I have been pronouncing Rigel "rhree-gull" for the last couple of years. I have been saying that way that it is now ingrained in my memory!
I'll probably be correcting myself for months.
Uh can I take a look at the Reee...I mean "Ri-jell"?

Mostly right, Elen, 'cept you need to do more of a job of swallowing the "L" at the end.
Plus, if you have the pleasure of hearing it in person, you'll get the full sensory experience of the smell of a little Texas BBQ as a bonus...

Hey Ted, I thought it was more a matter of wiping the chewing tobacco off your shoes...I hope Dale is off at NAMM or somewhere or he will be chasing me with a switch...
