Can anyone point me to a US source for TI Mandola strings in the light (weich) gauge?

Long winded explanation follows:

I recently got my Trinity College mandola out of limbo (& put on a set of Mittels from Elderly (but that's the only gauge they carry)), and I love the sound. However...

I'm seriously considering going to a DAEB tuning instead of CGDA. Partly 'cause it will be ever so much easier to transer my Irish tunes to it without messing up the fingering (or having that nasty stretch to the F# at 6 on the fourth), and still take advantage of open strings. I also just got a 17" (scale) five string that's set up GDAEB, and being able to practice the same blues/"jam band" stuff on the same tuning would be nice. If I do go this route, I plan to pretty much leave it there, rather than going back & forth to "standard".

I s'pose I could just go ahead & tune up, with the set that's on it, but that seems like it could be risky....

Thanks, but that doesn't help.

They've got sets for mandolin (gdae, set 154) and octave mandol(a/in) (GDAE, set 174). I'm looking for a set for "alto" mandola (usually CGDA, set 164).

It doesn't say mittles or weich but it does say 164. I don't know. hope this helps more! # http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I found GHS set for octave mando good, 3 wound pairs, lighter guage than those for mandola, the remaining heavier ones function on 14" electric in CGDA tune.

Again, thanks to all, but...

Elderly's 164s, as listed on their website, are mittles--that's what she's wearing now. I may call them up & ask if they've got weich.

I may try some other brand if I can't find what I'm looking for, but I'm pretty much a TI True Believer since the first time I tried them.

Ping Ted E to see what he can do for you. He doesn't list dola strings, but he may be able to get them for you. His site has a phone number for his shop. Great guy, great stuff, great prices. His TI mando prices beat everybody else's hands down.

No affiliation, just admire Ted's contribution to the mando world.

Best,
Ken

Hey, RolandTumble,
If you haven't found the strings yet, I can get them. Not meaning to blow my own horn here, but I have a business called The Music Tree, specializing in acoustic string products. Thomastics, John Pearse, D'Addario strings etc. .....
