I always have a problem supporting the mandolin neck when changing strings. I just bought a Caldwell Deadshot front rest from LL Bean. It is made to be used as a barrel support when sighting in a rifle. #Works like a charm. # Clamdigger

That would work well. I may try it. I use a really fat paperback book that have on my bookshelf. It works pretty well too.

I've had a Fretrest guitar care system for years. It's a foam mat with a hollow plastic removable neck rest that can store a peg winder and wire cutters. Its held up really well with fairly heavy use for years and rolls up in a plastic storage tube. You can get them for about $20 bucks from Musician's Friend.

Haven't had a sufficiently spacious lap for a while now http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

I usually rest the neck on my leg, which always seems to be with me.

The Fret Rest works great. Also cleans up nice. Especially when you change strings on a dual-use work bench. Motor oil and Mandolins do not mix well together... http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
