I forgot to mention that I took the tailpiece cover off and the buzz continues. THanks.
It sounds like you narrowed it down the the 5th fret. Try raising the bridge a hair.
The string is probably buzzing on the higher frets.

Probably neck or fret problem, But on any new instrument it's a good idea to check the tuner bushings in the peghead, the screws that hold the tuners on, the screws in the tuners themselves, the buttons on the tuners, the nut on the truss rod, the screws in the tailpiece, any pickguard hardware, Anything that can be loose.
A guy just left here with a pac rim mandolin that had a buzz. It turned out to be the truss rod nut. It was completely loose. There was also a loose bolt on the pickguard.

I've got a Washburn M3SWE Mando that had some serious buzz problems that I couldn't seem to pin down. After checking all the obvious stuff including all the tips on this thread, I gave up and took it to the local Washburn authorized repair shop. Turned out to have a split in the bridge/pickup assembly. The shop sent it back to Washburn as they wouldn't do the warranty work for what Washburn would pay them. I ended up getting a replacement mando back from Washburn. Yours wouldn't happen to be the electric version too would it?

Thanks for all the help. Mine is an accoustic. I had started to lift the bridge a little and it didnt seem to affect it. If i wanted to raise it higher i would have to lossen the strings up. So I decided to bring it in to the shop it came from just a few days earlier. They looked at it and after a little while, gave it back to me in perfect condition. Turned out to be that the bridge wasnt high enough. They raise it and it solved everything. Thanks again for the help.

Could just be simple truss rod adjustment. When there's to little relief, you'll buzz from fret 5 on down (more or less)
